It is with sincere regret and sorrow that we announce the passing of Helena Royuk Onegow on the evening of Saturday, May 6th, 2017.

At the ripe old age of 94, less than one month shy of 95, our Baba had lived a long life, full of its share of lean times, problems and challenges. She would sometimes mention to us, as she got older, that she wished to die in her flower garden, pulling out one last weed and holding it up to the sun’s light in accomplishment. Thursday morning, while working in her gardens, Baba fell and hurt herself badly. Friday morning, she suffered a stroke which led to her eventual passing Saturday evening at Brome Missisquoi Perkins Hospital in Cowansville, Qc. She passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

She was a person that always carried herself with a humble dignity. Generous toward others in all things; be it her time, her food, her advice or care and attention to those around her. She will be sorely missed, but we take comfort in the idea that we will all see her again one day. If there is a person that lived that deserves to go to Heaven; it is her. Baba was not a fancy or snobby person. She was down -to-earth in all ways. She made the best varenikis this side of the Atlantic Ocean, borsht soup and the best apple pie ever.

We love you, Baba, and miss you dearly already. The Montreal area has been affected by intense periods of rain recently and we like to think that the world is crying for the loss of a beautiful and unique person.
