Lillian Buttler (née Thompson)

(May 17, 1932 – November 10, 2023)

Lillian passed away peacefully in Cowansville on November 10th, 2023, at the age of 91. Although she will be deeply missed by her family and friends, we are forever grateful for her presence and influence in our lives.

She is predeceased by her husband, George Butler, her parents Irving Thompson and Viola Dennis, and her son-in-law, Bill Lowe. Lillian shared her love and her life with her four children, Deb (Bob), Don (Cathy), Deena, and Darla (Graham), along with her grandchildren, JJ (Michelina), Joelle (JP), Meghan, Nicholas (Jeremy), Julien (Caroline), Charlotte, Shawn, Christopher, Kathryn (Mathieu), Jasna (Joshua), Vic (Lily), and Karina (Noah). She also adored her great-grandchildren, Sophia and Ellie. She will be missed by all of us, along with her brother Kenny (Flora), George’s family, her nieces and nephews, extended family, and her countless friends.

Lillian was born and raised in Dunstaffnage, PEI. As a young adult, she left the island to pursue a career as an x-ray technician. She later met George, fell head over heels in love, and began raising her family. Lillian was a loving mom and a devoted wife and at the age of 50, she decided to return to school to follow her own dreams. She received her first Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bishops University and then completed her Bachelor of Social Work at McGill. She was courageous, perseverant, and inspirational to everyone who knew her. She later moved to Cornwall, ON where she worked as a social worker for several years. She eventually retired and moved to St. Jean sur Richelieu until a couple of years ago when she returned to Cowansville, QC. She was lucky to have spent the last couple of years living in a residence that kept her busy, stimulated, and active. Up until the end, she participated in yoga classes, bowling, aquafit, and many different social events. She loved her life in Cowansville!

Lillian loved her family with all her heart and was forever proud of each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They are blessed to have so many wonderful memories of Gramma. She was patient, kind, compassionate, loving, and would light up any room she entered. One always felt like they were part of our family when she was there, and so many people simply know her as Gramma.

Lillian was an avid baker, a great bowler, loved to read, followed politics closely, and cared deeply for our world.
