Janet Vaillancourt (née Rick)

We are profoundly saddened to announce that on March 18, 2024 Janet Cookson (Rick) Vaillancourt passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Janet was pre-deceased by her parents William and Miriam (Carmichael) Rick and her sibling Robert Allen Rick. She is survived by her beloved husband Denis Vaillancourt and their sons Pierre and Simon, siblings Wilma Grainger (Gar), Norma Lockwood (Brian), John Rick (Barbara), Anne Taylor (John), Jill Rick and Richard Tent. Janet had 17 Rick family nieces and nephews.

Born on June 14, 1951 in Val-des-Sources (formerly Asbestos) Quebec, Janet spent her early years in Quebec City and later the Rick family moved to Danville, Quebec. She was educated at Fanshawe College, McGill University and University of New Brunswick. Denis and Janet were married on June 23, 1984 and moved to Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec and eventually retired to their home in Bolton-Ouest, a busy, happy home.

Janet and Denis wish to thank Dr. Stéphanie Désilets and the CHUS Oncology team, the MUHC Stem Cell Team, Dr. Giannangelo GP from the Knowlton Medical Clinic, Dr. Sophie Bourbeau and Emilie Talbot from MAID. According to Janet’s wishes there will be no funeral. If you desire to honour Janet, she encouraged all those who are able to donate blood or support the Canadian Blood Services. A private family gathering will be decided upon later in the year.

No obituary can begin to reflect what Janet meant to us all. Only those who knew her can appreciate the extraordinary and unique person she was, and how she touched the lives of so many.

Janet a été prédécédée par ses parents William et Miriam (Carmichael) Rick et son frère et sa sœur Robert Allen Rick. Elle laisse dans le deuil son époux bien-aimé Denis Vaillancourt et leurs fils Pierre et Simon, ses frères et sœurs Wilma Grainger (Gar), Norma Lockwood (Brian), John Rick (Barbara), Anne Taylor (John), Jill Rick et Richard Tent. Janet avait 17 neveux et nièces de la famille Rick.

Née le 14 juin 1951 à Val-des-Sources (anciennement Asbestos), au Québec, Janet a passé ses premières années à Québec, puis la famille Rick a déménagé à Danville, Québec. Denis et Janet se sont mariés le 23 juin 1984 et se sont installés à Mont-Saint-Hilaire, au Québec puis finalement prendre leur retraite à Bolton-Ouest, dans une maison bien occupée et heureuse depuis lors.

Janet et Denis souhaitent remercier la Dre Stéphanie Désilets et l'équipe d'oncologie du CHUS, l'équipe de cellules souches du CUSM, le Dr Giannangelo GP de la clinique médicale Knowlton, la Dre Sophie Bourbeau et Émilie Talbot de MAID. Selon les souhaits de Janet, il n'y aura pas de funérailles. Si vous souhaitez lui rendre hommage, elle encourage tous ceux qui le peuvent à donner du sang ou à soutenir la Société canadienne du sang.

Aucune nécrologie ne peut commencer à refléter ce que Janet représentait pour nous tous. Seuls ceux qui l'ont connue peuvent apprécier la personne extraordinaire et unique qu'elle était et la façon dont elle a touché la vie de tant de personnes.
