Marjorie Joy Steele, 86 years old, passed away peacefully on May 9th , 2023 surrounded by her family. Joy was born on July 29th, 1936 to Gordon Steele and Edna Skinner of Granby, Quebec. Following graduation from Granby High School, she went on to pursue a career in nursing and earned her degree in 1956. Joy began her nursing career working at the Brome-Missisquoi Perkins Hospital in Cowansville soon thereafter.

On September 12th, 1959 Joy married her high school basketball sweetheart Warren at a beautiful ceremony in Granby, Quebec. Warren and Joy went on to have three children; Stephen (deceased 1961), Heather and Andrea. Joy is survived and dearly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Warren and children Heather (Phil Preteroti) and Andrea (Donna Chadwick) and grandchildren Matthew and Jessie Preteroti.

Joy was an avid and talented golfer and curler. She was actively involved in competitive golf at the Cowansville Country Club, winning countless tournaments and accolades. Joy also competed at a Provincial and National level. Joy’s dedication to golf (especially junior golf) culminated in her being elected as the National Director of the CLGA Junior Program in the late 1980’s.

Joy was happiest when surrounded by her pet beagles and cats. Joy also loved her plants/gardens. She enjoyed time on the back deck where she spent a lot of her time reading, caring for her pets, and watching the many birds, squirrels (and occasional deer) that loved the endless supply of treats.

Joy was a strong-willed and independent person. These traits served her well in her later years while dealing with recurring health issues. She battled the odds on more than one occasion, and she persisted until the very end. Joy always knew what she wanted, and nothing would stand in her way.
